ASUU SUSPENDS LINGERING STRIKE

ASUU has been on strike since March 2020 over demands for more funding for public universities and renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement. Others are outstanding earned academic allowances, the proliferation of universities by state governments and the constitution of Visitation Panels to Federal Universities.

Good news and hope for Postgraduate and Undergraduates as ASUU has conditionally on Wednesday call-off its strike, ending a protracted industrial action that started since March 2020. this was made known as ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja, explaining that the development followed consultations with its National Executive Council (NEC).

He further stated that the union would return to strike without notice if the government fails in meeting its part of the agreement reached with the university lecturers, Ogunyemi noted that the reopening of the schools, considering the COVID-19 pandemic, lies with the Federal Government and Senate. This sounds as hope to students who by January intend going back to school for academic activities.
